History of the Chevrolet Corvette Inverness FL
The Chevrolet Corvette is an iconic piece of American history, as important to our country as baseball and apple pie. The Corvette has been around for more than six decades, first appearing on the scene in 1953.
The first generation of the Corvette, C1, maxed out at 283 horsepower—surprisingly low by today’s standard but revolutionary when it first hit American roadways.
In 1963, Chevy introduced the Corvette C2, the second-generation Corvette. From ’63 through ’67, the C2 Corvette dominated, giving way to the legendary Sting Ray that was resurrected this decade as the Corvette Stingray. The C2 Corvette managed 430 horsepower at its best.
From 1968 to 1982, Chevrolet manufactured the C3, the third generation of the Corvette. During the reign of the C3, Chevy made several big moves, such as discontinuing the convertible option and moving production to Bowling Green, Kentucky.
The convertible option was not gone for long; Chevrolet resurrected it during the fourth generation (C4) of the Corvette in 1986. The C4 Corvette ran from 1984 through 1996. During this time, the National Corvette Museum broke ground (1990) and opened to the public (1994). Chevy also manufactured the first Corvette ZR-1 in 1990 with a 5.7-liter V8 engine.
The C5 fifth-generation started in 1997 and brought us into the new millennium. The first Z06 model came onto the scene in 2001, and shortly after, Chevrolet reached 50 years of the Corvette, marking the occasion with a special edition ‘Vette.
Starting in 2005, the sixth-generation Corvette (C6) upped the power game. Chevy introduced the LS3 6.2-liter V8 engine—a base engine that could serve up 430 horsepower.
The current generation, C7, launched in 2014 and has exposed us to some of the most powerful performance cars the world has ever seen. This year’s lineup includes the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, 2019 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport, 2019 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport, 2019 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, and 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1—the most powerful Corvette ever, producing 755 horsepower and 715 lb-ft of torque.
